The Campus Home for Appalachian Alumni

The McKinney Alumni Center is the only building on campus funded entirely by private donations. Located across from the Holmes Convocation Center at 553 Blowing Rock Road, the 7,200-square-foot center serves the needs of more than 99,000 alumni. The Center is comprised of a large reception area, great room, and a multipurpose conference room. The offices of Alumni Affairs and the Appalachian Foundation are also housed in the Center.

Sam and Virginia McKinney '33

The McKinney Alumni Center became a reality in 1995, thanks to the private donations of alumni and friends. A generous lead gift from Sam and Virginia McKinney, both members of the Class of '33, challenged all alumni to participate in the groundbreaking efforts by making a donation to the building fund.
