A letter from Patrick

If I were an Appalachian alumnus who didn’t live in Boone…
- First and foremost, I would save a week’s vacation and make plans to rent a cabin in the High Country for the week of Homecoming at Appalachian. Just think of the things that I could do!
- I could be surprised to see a sitting President visit Boone and drop by the Mast General Store to pick up some candy for Halloween.
- I could visit with some of my favorite faculty and staff who may still be on campus.
- I could beat the crowds to make my annual friends and family photograph at the main Appalachian sign, Touchdown Yosef, and The Rock.
- I could grab a burger and milkshake at Boone Drug on King Street.
- I could take a leisurely drive up on The Parkway to view the stunning fall colors.
- I could visit the University Bookstore and take care of my annual “I must purchase Appalachian swag and goodies for me, my family and friends.”
- I could spend an afternoon in Blowing Rock visiting the shops, sit on the park benches and watch the traffic roll by on Main Street.
- I could stop in to see the latest exhibition at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts.
- I could get a cup of java or hot tea at Crossroads Coffee House in the Plemmons Student Union and walk around the Union to see all of the awesome student organization Homecoming banners on display.
- I could drop in and see the Alumni Office staff and pick up a few extra alumni car decals or purchase the 2011 Appalachian Spirit ornament and other alumni merchandise.
- Lastly, I would realize that there is nothing quite like being back up on The Mountain for Appalachian’s homecoming celebrations…
Hope to see you in Boone, soon!
